Introducing the mui Calm Sleep Platform
Using sleep data to inform healthier smart home routines
People live in a world full of screens and sensors that constantly seek their attention while promising healthier living. Instead, these technologies have made the connected home a more stressful and complex experience. mui Lab seeks to simplify what it means to live in a 'smart home', one where routines are based on how you are feeling and seamlessly adjust to improve your wellbeing.
mui Calm Sleep Platform is the solution to bridging the experiential divide between sleep tracking and smart home automation. By leveraging new sensing technologies and collaborating with companies that specialize in synthesizing sleep tracking data, mui Calm Sleep Platform turns sleep data into actionable triggers—turning a 'smart home' into a 'wellness home' that helps you live a healthier lifestyle.

Wearable-less, Phone-free Sleep Sensing:
Wearable-less, Phone-free Sleep Sensing: Unlike conventional wearable sleep trackers, mui Lab’s Calm Sleep Platform requires no wearables or smart phone usage before bedtime. The natural-wood mui Board acts as a bedroom hub, quietly detecting sleep states via millimeter-wave sensing and managing functions such as alarms—seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

Human-centered sleep support:
Based on past sleep patterns, daily rhythms, and a user’s current state of being, the mui Board provides gentle pre-sleep stretch guidance and adjusts lighting from bedtime until it’s time to wake-up. Without relying on sleep scores or similarly stressful metrics,  mui’s Calm Sleep Platform can help users build healthier sleep patterns.

A low-burden approach to “restoring” sleep:
A low-burden approach to “restoring” sleep: Supervised by sleep specialist Dr. Ryutaro Shirahama, Calm Sleep Platform respects user privacy while providing a range of sleep-related experiences, reframing sleep as something to manage, but as something that can gently restore.

How mui Calm Sleep Platform Works
mui Calm Sleep Platform collects sleep data via millimeter wave sensors, either embedded inside a Calm Sleep version of the mui Board (launch to be announced in 2026), or using 3rd party sensors, such as Aqara’s FP2 or SwitchBot’s Presence Sensors*. The millimeter wave sensor data is then processed by Sleep.ai—a leading player in sleep intelligence—and sent back to mui Lab. With the synthesized sleep data, mui Lab sends commands to Matter devices connected to the mui Board—quietly shifting routines and automations based on ideal wake/sleep times.
